Like French Dip sandwiches. I’ll answer for you. Yes, you love them. The crusty French bread stuffed with juicy beef and served with a rich beef broth for dip’n. What if I told you of a magical place that serves something similar but Vietnamese style. That culinary wonderland exists and It’s called I Love Pho in Coralville, IA. The Iowa Gallivant discovers the Banh Mi sandwich….and company.
First up was I Love Pho’s homemade Crab Wontons with their homemade sweet chili sauce to start the dipping frenzy. We are big fans of anything filled with crab. Next up were the small bowls of what made this restaurant popular. Pho! The Vietnamese soup that gives its fans unholy cravings. One with round steak, another beef brisket, the last one with beef tripe. That should cover most of the steer. Don’t slurp that whole bowl right away. Save some for your Banh Mi!
We surf and turf’ed our sandwiches and went dip’n! I Love Pho’s Banh Mi comes with a few choices and we tackled the battered shrimp and a tender steak. Both sandwiches were stuffed with pickled daikon, shredded carrots, cilantro, fresh jalapenos, a creamy sauce and the incredible burst of ginger and soy sauce with every bite. Paired with their piping hot Pho, the Banh Mi is more than worthy of being a contender for our Best Between Bread award in December.
