Get that BBQ grin of yours ready and start following the smoke to Marion! 895 Blairs Ferry Road

Marion, IA: Linn County

If I could borrow a line from one of my favorite movies, Apocalypse Now…”You smell that? Over there in the trees! You smell that? It’s BBQ! I love the smell of BBQ in the morning! It smells like….QDog’s….” And boy did we pick-up on the scent like the hungry pack of hounds that we are. Here’s what we sauced up real proper-like….

A bucket of everything you could possibly need in your life. Homemade House original, Spicy, Mustard, and a tangy vinegar.

Let’s get one thing clear. QDog’s doesn’t spend their time making delicious BBQ sauce from scratch to just have them sit there for us to stare at. Tip those bottle upside down and try all of them out. I’m a complete mustard geek so I was sure that I was going love their recipe and I did. Their house and spicy BBQ sauces did the trick, but my clear favorite was the vinegar sauce. I didn’t put it on the meat but coated all of my crispy hot fries with it and let soak in. That’s how we roll on The Iowa Gallivant with our French fried po-taters! Now what’s going on with the sammiches?

To the left is the QDog’s Fatty Sammich. Juicy sausage wrapped in bacon and smothered with cheese. To the right is Gigi with the pulled pork sliders. All this food was served with a big ole smile from our server, Nikki, who kept the southern sweet-tea flowing. These were great, but the QDog’s contender for the Best Between Bread championship, in December, is…..

A brisket smiley face is the best kind!

The Brisket Philly made the cut. A sliced thin cut. Tender, slow-smoked brisket jam packed in a hoagie roll with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and melted provolone cheese. The brisket has just the right amount of fat to make this perfectly juicy while the cheese hugs the rest of ingredients together on the hoagie. I was sure to eat this magical sandwich over my fries so the wonderful brisket drippings would soak into them. Yes, that’s a true story. Don’t tell me how to live my life. Just get to Marion and take your seat at QDog’s. Just one question…What’s the napkins for? Wipe my fingers? Yea, right!
