The Best Between Bread-Iowa’s Sandwich Masters: Locale 36, Waverly

Something came in off the docks and Team Goodvin was ready to harpoon the catch!

Waverly, IA: Bremer County (Our 62nd County)

You can’t say Iowa without ahoy! Well, I guess you can, but that’s no fun. We headed to Northeast Iowa for a huge event filled weekend and wouldn’t you know it…The Iowa Gallivant took the long way home and the next thing you know we’re in Bremer County! And a few minutes later, we’re on the main drag of Waverly and walking into East Bremer Diner and getting served up a great meal with yet another contender for our Best Between Bread series….

It was pork and pizza time with a little soup on the side with another classic. Gigi hit up a cheese pizza that had was loaded with said cheese and had no problem completing her task. Charlie smashed a sandwich loaded with thin sliced roasted BBQ pork. Leah located her go-to wrap section and treated herself to the pork fajita with that thin sliced pork marinated in fajita seasoning with green peppers and onions. Coming in next was a huge bowl of tomato soup with that ever important grilled cheese. Not a bad start to this little blog post. What did Papa Bear order?

The fish sandwich to rule all fish sandwiches in Waverly!

Deep-fried, hand-breaded Walleye served incredibly hot with house-made tartar sauce. Sign me up! Plenty of lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and a generous portion of terrific onion rings. This Walleye was a pleasure and couldn’t have been a better way to welcome us into Bremer County for the first time. We’ll see if it is a champion in December!
