If you grew up visiting the Amana Colonies, then you remember all the nostalgic reasons why you went. The local food, packed gift shops, the old world culture and for this guy, all that delicious and refreshing beer at Millstream Brewing Co. These talented beer makers are responsible for opening my mind up to craft brew with their Windmill Wheat so many years ago. Now, it’s their talented cooks locking down another reason to head back to Amana more and more!
Let’s not get too far away from what made this outfit famous. The Millstream Brau Haus have all their selections on tap including their craft soda. I was happy to crush the cream soda while Charlie slurped down the black cherry soda and Leah knocking back the orange cream soda. Our server, Damien, gave the thumbs to all our beverage orders. Especially that crisp Big Honey Heffe that Monie found a home for.
The Brau Haus made it very difficult for Team Goodvin to make a decision between all the mouthwatering items on the menu. Eventually we made it happen and out came their twist on Amana comfort food. Goulash and potato dumplings, a bratwurst made with their own stout beer, a perfectly cooked hamburger with local bacon and an incredible homemade blue cheese sauce, and a black bean chipotle veggie burger for Leah. As you can seem she’s her father’s daughter by garnishing her burger with sweet potato fries. Cherish these moments, folks. You know what else you should cherish? This!!!!

The Best Between Bread search just got a little more “whooooo-wee” in our travels. Thanks in part to the Spicy Chicken Schnitzel sandwich! Your traditional schnitzel breading on a juicy chicken breast and seasoned just enough with their spicy blend to keep you ordering more of that infamous craft beer. It’s crispy, served on a fresh pretzel roll and came in with its sidekick of warm German potato salad and more of those addictive sweat potato fries. A sandwich champion will be crowned this December and we’ll see if Millstream has room for another award for their crowded mantle.
