Pocahontas, IA: Pocahontas County (Our 59th County!)
We find ourselves gravitating to the creamy oasis know as the local summertime ice cream shop more and more. It must be the anticipation for their annual openings and the great memories that come with it. Our visit to Northwest Iowa brought us through the town of Pocahontas and we weren’t getting out of there until we barreled into The Udder Cow and tackled their newest creation.
The crew just opened the doors and came ready to serve up some of the best ice cream in Northwest Iowa. One orange float for me and a banana malt for Leah. That’s one way to take care of the fruit category. And now the veggies! We Iowan’s love our sweet corn and The Udder Cow their fryer up and running for some tasty corn nuggets. Give them a couple minutes, folks, and let the roof of your mouth have fond memories of Pocahontas too. I didn’t do that by the way. That float was halfway done because of that. Worth every second! And you know what else was worth every second?
Introducing the Piggy Pounder! The Udder Cow’s hand breaded pork tenderloin topped with their BBQ pulled pork! And here’s the best part. The Udder Cow cuts and tenderizes their own pork tenderloin and then slow cooks the tips for their pulled pork. That is a lot of tender pork on one sandwich! This was an easy decision to put on the Best Between Bread search and we’ll see if Pocahontas will have a sandwich champion in December. I should have ordered two….
