Check-In
The natural rural Iowa sunlight was filling our room when we checked in. That’s the perfect way to welcome some guest to their new room if you ask me. The pillows and sheets were top quality and the mattress was just right for us. Blankets made right there at the Amana Woolen Mill was a nice touch as well.That’s right, folks….Sleep local!
Explore Amana
The best part about your accommodations at Hotel Millwright is that it’s walking distance to all the shops and eateries in Amana. Park the car and give that a rest too when you get to town.Shop around, walk around, and take some sips of local wine along the way. Ackerman Winery is just the place to do just that.It won’t take long to find yourself absorbing Amana culture and heritage as you walk the streets. One of the best ways to get to the history is right here at the Amana Heritage Museum.There‘s always something you didn’t know you needed until you step into places like Serenity Sage.Bring back the memories of your time in Amana by occasionally slurping some of it down!One of the staples to seasonal shopping in the area is the Amana General Store! Trust me, you’ll find all your sticking stuffers, birthday gifts and party tray ideas right here under one roof.To all my fellow condiment collectors….You have your heading!
Supper Time at Hotel Millwright
Let’s start with apps back at the Hotel Millwright! The Electric Thread Social Club is a building just outside the lobby and they can bring out the tasty adventures as well. Like these deviled eggs! They had me at pickled mustard seeds…..Breaded and fried shrimp that’s ready to take several dips into that caper lemon remoulade!Our table at the Indigo Room that’s positioned inside the hotel is where this Peppercorn crusted beef short rib served over creamy polenta showed up with some tasty friends!Fresh salad arrived with our meals as well with the Indigo Room making sure the veggies are nice and fresh! Those tomatoes were popping! One of the best chops I’ve ever had! This Porterhouse Pork Chop was getting its own spa treatment with plenty of melted butter. The Indigo Room is one of those restaurants that also makes you want to order all the sides!Dessert back at the room. We took these sweet tooth options for a little ride back to our HQ to get devoured with a view of the sunset from our window.
Breakfast Time at Hotel Millwright
Smoked Brisket was the name of the game at the Millwright for breakfast and we couldn’t have been more pleased to see it on the menu. Look at this skillet!Give more Brisket and Biscuits! The Indigo Room cooking crew makes you wonder why you can’t find smoked brisket more often. Just get over here and start diving into that gravy!
Lunchtime at the Ronneburg
The Ronneburg Melt for all of us who love Jager Schnitzel and sandwiches! Seriously great handheld right there. I ordered mine with grill mushrooms….Tradition pork schnitzel sandwich that hits just right. If love breaded pork tenderloins then give this a go!
The staff at the Hotel Millwright did a fantastic job all around. From the time we checked in, all of our meals, pointing us in the right direction around Amana, and keeping us incredibly comfortable in our wonderful and spacious room. The Amana Colonies have been an easy day trip for so many of us, but I highly recommend you take advantage of the area even more, when you can, and make it an overnight. Staying on one of the area’s most historic buildings turned into a modern hotel is just the way to make an Amana weekend happen this fall and beyond!
C’mooooooon…You’ve always said you needed a nap after an Amana meal like this. So book a room!
