We had the pleasure of visiting Algona a couple weeks ago during our annual Scouting RAGBRAI Series and once again we plowed right into another legendary sandwich that was prepared by the folks at Billie Jo’s Bar & Grill. The music, beers, and atmosphere was set just right for this Best Between Bread contender and the locals knew it!
Brie brought the local Iowa beers and the enthusiasm to our table. We hit up the 4th of July Burger first with all its beef, grilled hot dog, melted cheese, BBQ baked beans and crispy potato chips. Great choice but it was Brie’s favorite choice on the menu that got Algona on the Sandwich Masters map.
Juicy grilled chicken breast on toasted sourdough bread jam-packed with their homemade spinach artichoke dip and melted cheese. This will be one of the richest flavored sandwiches you’ll get all year and we found home for every bite. It came highly recommended by one of the locals and now it’s highly recommended by The Iowa Gallivant. The RAGBRAI crowd will love this sandwich but why wait until then? Perhaps Algona will be the Best Between Bread champion in December…Sandwich style road trip, baby!
