So much can be experienced in the Quad Cities, but I think its time we start looking at the outskirts a little more. Or maybe A LOT more! This metro area brings in some of Iowa’s biggest numbers when it comes to tourism and one experience here will tell you why. But its when you discover the off-the-beaten-path jewels that are peppered all over Scott County, you’ll gather enough reasons to keep coming back for years to come. We’ve explored this region many times and this was our first visit to historic Wapsi Willy’s!

Atmosphere is always on special at Wapsi Willy’s and you can feel it right when you walk in. The long-time dance hall has the feel of a constant party at your best friend’s machine shed inside with all your favorite foods and drink. Plate envy is a common theme here and it made it very hard to order. Order we did though…

Soft pretzels with some house-made beer cheese dip was the appetizer and it’s always pinkies up when dipp’n out of teacup. And when slamming the rest of the cheese sauce because shame on you for letting that go before it’s swiped clean. After the pretzels was our beautiful sandwiches and a staff favorite landed first. Grilled chicken topped with all that melted pepper jack cheese and sauteed mushrooms on a branded bun. The Wapsi Swamp Monster is what made it to this list of amazing sandwiches and could bring a championship to Long Grove. Two beef patties with fried catfish, fried crawfish, bacon, pepper jack cheese and their signature Wapsi Sauce. What’s worth the drive to you? This should be on your list.
