Best Between Bread-Iowa’s Sandwich Masters: Locale 60, Storm Lake

Hey, Juanita! We’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

We have been to this institution of authentic Mexican food before and we knew the winds would bring us back to Storm Lake just for another great La Juanita meal. What we didn’t know is that the Juanita crew would wind up on yet another statewide search of ours. The Iowa Gallivant toured the state for the Best Hometown Tacos and La Juanita Taqueria was one of the most viewed posts of 2016. Well, they managed to impress us again and here they are on our Best Between Bread series. Let’s dig in!

The familiar murals overlooked our meal of quesadillas, burritos, and tacos. That would be more than enough reason to head to one of NW-Iowa’s best restaurants. The constantly growing amount of diners heading to the registers were ordering a legion of selections off the menu that just keeps on giving. And that includes this tasty beast!

The classic torta strikes again! Traditional soft Mexican-style bread toasted and built with fresh lettuce, tomato, avocado, sour cream and onion. I chose two meats to fill out the order and they were two of my favorites at La Juanita. Chorizo and lengua. What’s lengua? Great question! Slow cooked and very juicy cow tongue and I order it every chance I get and so does my whole family. If you love beef then it is impossible to not to love lengua. So try it out… there’s not many places in Iowa that does it as good as La Juanita. You’re up for another championship, Storm Lake. Let’s see if December brings one home to La Juanita and this torta worth road tripping for.
