Our recent Scouting-RAGBRAI trip to Waukon showed us an amazing time. The winery, huge omelets, giant margaritas, a Moscow Mule the size of an actual mule, and a visit to the Cheese Curd Capitol of Iowa. That would be more than enough for your first trip to Waukon, but there was a Best Between Bread contender we bumped into. An then ate into. I didn’t seem to mind…

The first sandwich we had was a grilled tuna steak with roasted bell peppers, caramelized onions, and a peso mayo sauce. The tuna had all the makings for a great meal, and it most certainly was! But it wasn’t what got Mulligan’s in the running for the best sandwich Iowa. We went in another steak direction….

The Tenderloin Tip Sandwich! Beef tips topped with bacon, mushrooms, and a rich Monterrey Jack cheese sauce. All on a toasted ciabatta roll and all in my belly. The cheesy sauce covered the juicy steak and it created a harmonious sandwich. We’ll see if Waukon has a sandwich master champion in December. Until then, get all the Mulligan’s you want!
