Coralville, IA: Johnson County
Let’s get right to the point. These tacos…flipp’n beautiful! The City of Coralville has a contender for our Taco Tour of Iowa and Casa Azul gave us a top notch experience. The crew was doing well with the dinner time rush when we arrived. I ordered the Tacos de la Casa and our servers reply…..”Oh, yes. You made the right choice, my friend.” Three fresh corn tortillas filled with fajita style chicken, grilled onions and topped with a chipotle creme. Behold our newest contestant for Iowa’s best tacos…..
Joining the ride was a huge plate of Enchiladas Trio-Three chicken enchiladas covered with red, green, and mole sauces, topped with cheese, onion, and avocado, served with rice and beans. We also got a very hot bowl of Queso Fundido-melted chihuahua cheese with chorizo, pico, and tortillas. And to wash it down was a tall glass of icy cold Horchata- a sweet and cinnamon flavored milky beverage that is perfect when you’re consuming spicy Mexican food.

We found out right away why Casa Azul was buzzing with customers. They were quick on the chip refills and never let the fresh salsa run low. The dining room was alive with some vibrant decor and artwork while the familiar sounds of the bar pumping out drinks to the guests. Great work, Casa Azul! We’ll see if you’re crowned “Best Tacos” in December!
