Kalona, IA: Washington County

Travelers flock to Kalona for many reasons these days. The rolling farmland that you drive through yields countless family farms selling their fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, meats, homemade goods. Country stores specializing in affordable groceries sold in bulk, clothes, handmade quilts, kitchen supplies, and handcrafted furniture. And let’s not forget the bakeries! Many of these places being run by local Amish and Mennonite families that showcase their hard work and delicious food. This is just on the way in to Kalona! When you reach city limits you’ll find more that this rural community has to offer. A thriving downtown district with a premier brewery, shopping, and tasty restaurants including Tequila Grill! We’ll slow down for the occasional horse drawn buggy and come to a screeching halt for tacos

There’s many restaurants in this country that would love to have more business on Mondays. A traditional down time for this proud industry. Tequila Grill didn’t get that memo. At least on this particular Monday because they were slammed! An excellent sign. A small town’s restaurant crawling with locals on a Monday night. Cha-Ching! Let’s go with some shrimp and how about some slow roasted pork rolled up in those all important flour tortillas…

The tacos did the trick, but that wasn’t that only thing Team Goodvin ordered. Behold the giant sizzling cast iron platter of Texas Fajitas!

A little Pico de Gallo, sour cream, grilled meats, copious amounts of chips and salsa, guacamole hanging from my beard, and my son trying to keep a straight face as I go through two-thirds of the meal not noticing it. Another successful evening in Kalona. Have good times, Tequila Grill. We sure did!
