You can’t stop the 2016 Iowa Taco Tour….Team Goodvin’s radar for fresh cilantro, warm tortillas, and perfectly cooked meat went off while make a run to North Liberty. El Taquito….Let’s do this!

North Liberty, IA: Johnson County

There’s a relatively new restaurant in Iowa’s Creative Corridor and they figured out how to lure The Iowa Gallivant through the doors and many more customers seeking the flavors from south of the border….and another border…and another one after that. El Taquito’s meals feature the best of Mexico and Central America.

Meet Maribel, the hard working owner of El Taquito. She is proud of her restaurant and you can tell when you eat her food.

Maribel knew there was one taco I couldn’t leave without trying- the Carnitas! Juicy slow cooked pulled pork loaded with flavor, some of the most tender Carnitas that I can recall. You can tell Maribel and the rest of The El Taquito crew has worked hard to mastered the Carnitas and other selections on their menu. We highly recommend washing this down with tall glass of the Aqua de Jamaica, a fruity blended drink served ice cold which goes well with everything!

Not only did we order the Carnitas, we made room for the Lengua (slow cooked beef tongue), Carne Asada (beef steak), and Pork Al Pastor.

El Taquito’s design for their dining room is modern yet filled with a classic touch of Central American art work. Maribel has not only put together a solid menu, she has also created a great experience that’s unique among the growing number of restaurants popping up in North Liberty. The market is wide open here and El Taquito is filling in a niche and our collective bellies.
