Storm Lake, IA: Buena Vista County
There’s the lake, the waterpark, the resort, and all the great things that draw thousands of visitors to Storm Lake every year. We came for all of those. Storm Lake is loaded with can’t miss recreation, historic homes, museums, and a picturesque campus at the local university. Storm Lake also has a….LEGENDARY taqueria and there was no way we weren’t putting La Juanita’s in the running for Iowa’s best tacos.
What is Iowa food? Well, you’re looking at it, if you ask me. La Juanita isn’t a loaded-with-cheddar, drown-it-in-sour-cream, and microwave-it-to-order restaurant. They use family recipes and fresh ingredients to showcase a truly authentic style. Above are pickled carrots and an ice cold grapefruit soda. On the bottom are four delicious tacos. Chorizo (Mexican Sausage), Buche (Pork Belly), Lengua (Beef Tongue) and Tripas (Beef Tripe). The four horseman of my favorite tacos. If you love fatty roast pork…You’ll love the Buche. If you love juicy roast beef…..You’ll love the lengua. If you love spicy ground sausage…..You’ll love the Chorizo. The tripas…..Just order them and enjoy. Trust me
Charlie opted for some killer cheese enchiladas while Ray (pictured) smashed one of La Juanita’s burritos. All were excellent choices. And my tacos…on point! Storm Lake is in the running my friends. If you haven’t made plans to get out there, then what are you doing? GO!
