Manning, IA: Carroll County

I like to camp. I also like being close to town. I also like plush canopies of trees. And I like having restaurants nearby. I also like hearing a creek flow by as I drift off to sleep. I want walking trails, roadside attractions and big meals grilled outdoors. All of these niche camping qualities are offered in Manning and it’s right next to one of Iowa’s most famous barns. Get your rig ready for Willow Creek and the German Hausbarn Campground!

The amazing and beautiful Lutheran Church that’s just up the hill from the campsite. Moved here to Manning, from its rural location, and finding its permanent home with the rest of Manning’s historic structures on the grounds.
The old German Hausbarn is one of Iowa’s most historic barns. Brought over from Germany and pieced back together right here in Manning. This too is also steps away from the campsite and you’ll be amazed by the architecture and craftsmanship that went into the entire structure.
The locals do an incredible job of managing The grounds and keeping up with the seasons. You’ll find this area very peaceful and May even catch yourself taking an extra lap or two during your stroll.

The great American cookout is the ultimate way to enjoy any campsite. Earlier in the day we supplied up at Bordenaro’s in Carroll, and supper couldn’t happen soon enough. I was ready for the grill, smoke, meats, salads and the beautiful Manning evening!

Steaks, chops, brats! The summertime trifecta of all my cookout dreams. Giant T-Bones, juicy skinless brats and tomahawk pork chops! The aroma from our campsite could have lured carloads of travelers on HWY 141 into the campground. That’s the unforgettable waft of a successful Carroll County Gallivant!
The T-Bone was almost too big for my plate! This is the perfect picture of summer right here. Corn on the cob at a Carroll County campsite!
Night time in the popup. A beautiful evening at the Hausbarn Campground with sounds of summer all around us. What was even better was the ice cream shop in Manning was just a few minutes away! Let’s go, Gigi! The camper can wait because Dad needs a banana split!

The early morning sunshine was out and I was back on the walking trail. Past the church, historic homestead and farm, back to the freedom rock, greetings from our neighbors at other campsites and one last look at the German Hausbarn.

Keep on the sunny side, folks! An easy thing to do during a Carroll County summer in Manning!

We love the wilderness and roughing it sometimes, but having the entertaining town of Manning in our backyard made this popup camper experience a very memorable one. We thank all of you that came to visit with us and helped the entire gang dive into a premium steak dinner. Let’s load up the grills again at the Hausbarn!
