*The recent Pottawattamie County Gallivant brought us lakeside to a park I have driven past far too many times. Shame on us, but we made it happen this go’around, and I was sure glad we did. Our stay at Arrowhead Park was complimentary and the views expressed are of my own. Now, let’s Gallivant!

Neola, IA: Pottawattamie County
When road tripping, we often drive miles and miles for the off the beaten path story we love to search for on The Iowa Gallivant. Not a bad concept, but I’ll be the first one to tell you that I need to narrow down the search every now and then. Just a few miles from the hustle and bustle of Iowa’s I-80 and less than an hour from Council Bluffs/Omaha and just over an hour from the Des Moines area is Arrowhead Park. I have always told folks that all of Iowa changes when you so much as drive less than ten minutes from all our main interstates like 80, 35, and 29. I took my own advice and Arrowhead Park revealed itself. Less than 10 minutes from the exit on I-80 is a Pottawattamie County valley that wants all the public to experience, behold, and enjoy the natural wonders and scenery it provides. The county is happy to host your group and your break from a whole lot of busyness in your daily life and they can’t wait to check you into Arrowhead Park!

Do you like to go camping? Then you found your place. Do you prefer a roof over your head rather than the tent? You found your place. You prefer that the cabin is more like a townhouse? You found your place. Rustic Ridge is in a rural setting with plenty of scenery and all the amenities you need for a short or long stay in Neola. It’s also not very far from the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area if you’re looking for all the options that the exciting region provides every day and all year long. You’re also close to many other small town communities with a unique adventure they offer to everyone in town such as McClelland, Oakland, Minden, Avoca, the Antique City of Walnut, and more. Or you can spend every Pottawattamie moment you have right here in Neola’s Arrowhead Park. No one would blame you for that.

I was here for just a day. I wandered where I could in the time that I had, and I was grateful for all the hours I had at Arrowhead. Too many road trips I’ve taken and only caught glimpses of the campgrounds and parks just off the interstate. Generations of families and campers have enjoyed places like this as streams of cross country voyagers zip by during all hours of the day. Camping, lakeside activities, hiking trails, cabins, fishing, and Western Iowa skies with its sunsets and sunrises. You’re sure to find your place of relaxation somewhere at Arrowhead. Get here and just take it easy through your time in Pottawattamie County.
