Feeling Like Home at the Sac City Motel

*We love gallivanting and we can’t do it without some great lodging partners. Our stay at the Sac City Motel was complimentary and the opinions expressed in this blog post are of our own. Now, let’s gallivant!

Sac City, IA: Sac County

My old Northwest Iowa friend known as Sac City. For over 40 years I’ve been taking the trip to this area with many of those visits to see my grandparents in nearby Early, Iowa. Now I come to this area to show my family how special it is and to promote Historic US Route 20 through Iowa. You can’t have these classic road trips without stories of the highway oasis known as the great American motel.

A site I seek more than ever these days. The family owned and operated motel.

The Sac City Motel has been a constant landmark for my NW-IA trips and for the first time I got the chance to stay here bringing along my son, Charlie and my mom, Beth who grew up in that little town, Early, that I mentioned before. The bright white paint of the motel makes it pop. Especially on an endless blue sky filled afternoon in rural Iowa.

Debbie checked us in and took care of our fantastic stay at the Sac City Motel. The office had plenty of coffee, cookies, and our first round of souvenirs for our gallivant. As you can see, hunting brings in a lot of business to the area and Sac City Motel knows how to make them happy with comfortable rooms.

Warm rooms on a chilly autumn day was just what we wanted and had waiting for us at the Sac City Motel. Very clean and with all we needed. Crisp linens, wonderful towels, great water pressure in the shower, and college football coming in crystal clear on the flat screen TV, along with A LOT of other channels to chose from. Free WiFi for the phones and my trusty laptop to keep us plugged in. The rooms had the feeling and decor that fit your Sac County experience.

Take a break from the key card and get an actual key from time to time.

Why do I love motels and seek them out so much? One of the easiest questions I can answer. We genuinely felt like regular guests, though this was the first time meeting Debbie and staying at the proud motel. It is a place of business but its also a home for the owners. And that’s what you feel when you’re there. I may not have any family living in the area anymore, but thanks to folks welcoming us in at places like this motel and throughout the town, I know that Sac City will always feel like coming home for me. Thank you to all and thank you for gallivanting with us.
