We’re at our second of many stops on history’s Wurst Road Trip. Make sure to click on the “links” for more info. That pun is as delicious as it gets.

Osage, IA: Mitchell County (Our 71st County!)

Year 1 was Tour de Biscuits and Gravy. Year 2 was the Best Hometown Tacos. Year 3 was the Best Between Bread. And now our latest culinary project showcases some of the meat cutting legends from all over the state of Iowa. You like shopping, eating and supporting local? Then you are going to love Iowa’s Wurst Road Trip! Let’s get to know S&S Locker & Liquor and their team.

Some of the true MVP’s at S&S. Your favorite meal is nearly ready.

And that was our introduction to S&S…..And I wouldn’t have it any other way. We were shown the whole shop from the back of the house to the front and you could tell just how proud they were of their shop and trade. This locker was busy with customers, but Tom the owner still made sure that we knew what was some of his favorite, most popular and history of their selections at S&S.

Hundreds of pounds of their own bacon is sold here routinely. Their fresh steaks, roasts, and chops hit local grills, frying pans, and ovens everyday. Air sealed delicacies are displayed in their fridge; and the freezer is loaded with all sorts of items like Capon Patties that caught our eye right away. Driving to Osage is encouraged but not required if you want meat from S&S. They ship all over the world including to troops serving abroad. One of their most requested items from homesick lovers of S&S is their house smoked beef strips. We purchased a package of these and they didn’t last long. Always perfect road trip food! What else did we get? Here it is…..

We had a Christmas party coming up and what’s better than a log of summer sausage? How about cranberry-jalapeno summer sausage! But, what put Osage into this Wurst Road Trip was the package of Omelet Sausage links! Pork sausage filled with eggs, potatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, and onion. This would be great by themselves, but we decided to take them to another level when we got’em home. Its breakfast burrito time!

Tom said to roll the Omelet Sausage in tortillas and we thought that was a great idea. And naturally we started to add a couple more things. We fried up potatoes, spicy chorizo sausage crumbles, scrambled eggs, and crispy bacon. Stopping there? No way! After warming up some tortillas the size of your average spare tire, we coated one side with freshly cooked refried beans, shredded Colby-Jack cheese and homemade guacamole. Next was four S&S Omelet Links and started to roll those daddys up. Eat up and take no prisoners, folks. That’s just how I was raised.

The crew at S&S are no strangers to awards when it comes to their delicious meats. We’ll see if they bring another one home to Osage in December of 2018. They made it to Iowa’s Wurst Road Trip but there’s still plenty of miles to case before we announce a wiener. I mean winner. Good times!
