The Best Between Bread-Iowa’s Sandwich Masters: Locale 53, Conesville

When we arrived, we didn’t know if we were in Louisa or Muscatine County but one thing we knew for sure is that this county line supper club was going to make our Best Between Bread search right when we walked in. Deese’s Thirsty Camel had huge plates of all your supper club favorites flying out to the tables. All you can eat fried catfish, thick cuts of juicy prime rib, grilled ham steaks, jumbo shrimp and more of what is going to lure us back.

We made a nice dent on the fresh salad bar and Gigi ordered her go-to: The Camel’s incredible pulled pork sandwich with sweet BBQ sauce. The Team Goodvin kids have been huge supporters of Iowa Pork on this search, and they’re not slowing down. But what did papa bear order? You can call me Frenchie…..

The wind was just right for a French Dip sandwich with all the options. Our server should sell cars too, because I would have said yes to the extra floor mats if she suggested it. The Camel’s prime rib piled high in a hoagie roll and served with rich au jus. Would you like peppers and onions added? Yes! Jalapenos? Yes! Maybe some melted Swiss cheese! Yes!!!!!! The answer is always, yes! Conesville could bring a championship to the Louisa-Muscatine line in December and they would have this giant to thank.
