Webster City, IA: Hamilton County (Our 43rd County!)
When one is on a road trip, one must stop at establishments with professionals that know how to prepare legendary sandwiches and masters of the traditional Iowa comfort food. We sniffed out just the place when traveling through North-Central Iowa and put it on The Iowa Gallivant’s roster for the championship coming up this December. There’s a long way to go but The Lunchbox Market & Deli has all the makings for this competition.
Dessert first! House rules I think. We ordered up the pistachio pudding pie and wouldn’t you know it….It was 3.14! March 14th=Pi! My wife told me that and I’m still not sure what all that means. But I didn’t care cuz I was able to get delicious pie before the meal came out!
People come from miles around to the Lunchbox for this huge portion of heaven. Iowa boys and girls of all ages know just exactly how to spell delicious. It starts with “hot” followed by “roast beef”. The ultimate sandwich that no one has the guts to pick up with their hands. Tender slow-roasted beef topped with a wheel barrel of gravy and served with homemade mashed potatoes on soft white bread. It didn’t stop here…
The sandwiches rolled out along with the tasty sides that came with them. I have absolutely no data to back this up, but if you were to tell me that all mayonnaise based salad were invented in Iowa I’d believe you with no evidence or historical fact to back it up. That being said, The Lunchbox has blessed its customers with amazing salads. Again, probably invented in Iowa. I introduce you to the partners of Fiesta Corn and Black Bean Salad and BLT Pasta Salad.
The Midwestern roster of stick to your ribs delights must be followed up by innovative sandwiches and the reason we stopped into Webster City. We went poultry, spicy, grilled and nothing leftover. Your Webster City representatives are right here….
#21-Kick N’ Turkey! Fresh turkey breast with melted pepperjack cheese, chipotle dressing on toasted marbled rye and topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, banana peppers, and BACON! It had just the right amount of spice and each flavor came through deliciously. Try to tell me this sandwich can’t put up a good fight to any other in the Hawkeye State. We’ll see how it holds up through the course of the year as we’ve only scratched the crusty surface for what Iowa has to offer. There’s more Sandwich Masters to meet!
