Hiawatha, IA: Linn County (Our 21st County!)

Overnight #6 for RAGBRAI’s (Register’s-Annual-Great-Bike-Ride-Across-Iowa) will feature one of Linn County’s premier communities. Hiawatha is expanding and is offering it’s cycling tourists some great recreation and vittles for their stay. Yup, Team Goodvin managed to find some great food again. Here we go!

our Hiawatha experience began at one of eastern Iowa's most unique shop's and restaurant's. The Farmer's Daughter's Market! http://www.fdmarket.com/

We found one of the best spots for folks looking for locally grown and sourced food, wine, art, plants and more at The Farmer’s Daughter’s Market. They keep the showroom stocked to the ceiling and the kitchen prepped with made from scratch items that keep regulars and newbies like us coming back and fed with home cooked meals and desserts. We ordered…Ate…Ordered again….Ate. The RAGBRAI teams can continue this pattern all day long. This amazing market will feature bands, three Iowa wineries sampling their varietals, a bike valet, and a celebration inspired by the once popular show Hee-Haw. I’ll be doing my best to look like Conway Twitty.

Hello Darli'n...It's good to see you....I'ts been along time..Your're just as lovely. Meet, Jennifer Goodlove. Owner, founder, executive chef, retail coordinator, master gardener, wine specialist and constant hostess of the Farmer's Daughter's Market. She led us to one of her favorite displays and we think the RAGBRAI goers will too! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Farmers-Daughters-Market/193081814123288?fref=ts

One of the classics made fresh and perfect. Homemade cream of broccoli soup with homemade croutons. Capping off the beauty is their own BBQ pulled pork sandwich. Jennifer moved to Chicago and realized she knew how to Iowa it up better then anything. A few years ago she moved back to Hiawatha and the passion can be seen all over the property and tasted in her food.

We know how to find the area’s best food and characters on The Iowa Gallivant. We also know how to stay active. Hiawatha has made a name for themselves with showcasing one of Iowa’s best bike trails.

The campsite can wait. Take a tour of Hiawatha on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. http://linncountytrails.org/maps/find-a-trail/cedar-valley-nature-trail/

The trail is very well maintained and will offer some glorious Linn County summertime scenery.

The walk was long and the day warm. Our lunch from earlier was starting to wear off and we let our stomachs lead the way. And we found ourselves at one of the Cedar Rapids’ most well known Pizza institutions.

Tomaso's Pizza has 3 area locations and lucky for RAGBRAI's carb-craving masses they have one in Hiawatha not too far from the main campsite. http://www.tomasospizzeria.com/

Miya and Lily will be rolling out the fresh pizza dough at Tomaso's-Hiawatha in fine RAGBRAI form. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tomasos-Pizza/254363598068?fref=ts

After a trip for Pizza, we explored Hiawatha’s huge city park and to RAGBRAI’s main campsite. The weather was perfect for more running around and soaking up the sun and cool water at the popular splash pad in Guthridge Park!

Tons of tents will be claiming their territory at Hiawatha's Guthridge Park. For camping, entertainment and music!

The evening came and it was time to head back home and prepare for the next day. The next day back in Hiawatha! We’re not done yet.

The coffee is on and RAGBRAI will be in high demand for it. A short bike ride is Roasters Coffee House and everything a bike'ster needs to fuel up. http://roasterscoffeehouse.com/

Anna serving up my go-to. Ice coffee with two shots of espresso. Because one shot is too mainstream. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Roasters-Coffee-House/105796120727?fref=ts

Our last Hiawatha stop came highly recommended by some of the locals. To my pure joy, they had a selection that I appreciate very much. Oscar’s here we come!

Not too far from anything in Hiawatha. Oscar's Restaurant was slamming during our visit and is sure to be providing hot breakfast and quick service for RAGBRAI. http://www.oscarsfamilydining.com/

The #12. One of my all-time favorite meals. Corned beef hash and eggs with buttered toast. The hash is made from scratch and is talked about all over Hiawatha. Thanks, George! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Oscars-Restaurant/458149434223381?fref=ts

We’ve watched Hiawatha grow year after year and we can see why RAGBRAI included this great town on it’s list of overnights. When your wheels hit Hiawatha,  you’ll be greeted by a group of locals eager to show why RAGBRAI came back and should come again. Just one more stop for us on our scouting series and we’re just days away from the first bike hitting the Iowa road!
